National celebration of Seafarers, the forgotten workforce
Andrew Wright, CEO Mission to Seafarers on Sea Sunday 2013
Sea Sunday is a national event giving people the chance to thank the brave and dedicated seafarers that deliver over 90% of the food and goods the UK uses every day.
Special services, fundraising events and ship blessings will be held all around the country. Over 600 churches will be supporting the Mission to Seafarers on the day.
Seafaring can be a tough, isolated and hazardous career. The work of a seafarer is one of the most difficult and challenging jobs in the world. They may be away from family and friends for months or even years at a time.
The Mission to Seafarers supports seafarers in need in over 260 ports in 71 countries around the world, through its global network of chaplains and volunteers who offer a warm welcome, practical and financial support, advocacy services, access to legal advice and family liaison.
The Mission is entirely funded by voluntary donations.
Seawork International is the largest and fastest growing commercial marine and workboat event to be held in a European working port.
Now in its 16th successful year, Seawork attracts over 450 exhibitors and 7200 visitors from all over the world. Seawork takes place in a single-storey venue which converts to a top grade facility of international standard.
